1980s – Funny story

Sometime in the 1980s jimNewkirk, Newt Swain, and I went to Philadelphia to attend a conference.  Jim was my¥y partner in the company and Newt – Sharon’s cousin – worked with us.  The conference was on the 10th (top) floor of a hotel. When we broke for lunch, we got on a crowded elevator.  Newt was directly in front of the button panel.

The elevator stopped at the ninth floor and a man got on.  It was crowded, so he was right in front of the doors.  When they closed, he said “did anyone push 6?” Newt dutifully pushed 6. The elevator stopped at 6.  No one got on or off. Finally the doors closed and we started on down.  The man at the door started talking to himself loud enough for all to hear – “who pushed 6?  No one asked for 6. Is he some kind of nut.  Why did he do that . . .?”  He kept on talking. And everyone was getting a bit nervous when the elevator reached the ground floor.  The guy stepped out and turned around with a big smile and said goodbye.  It was a very famous comedian named Joey Bishop.
