Earlier in 1979 I received a letter from a company in California that sponsors the startup of new companies, inviting me to propose a company to do the same work I was doing at D. I wrote up a proposal and they invited me to visit, which I did. THey proposed a company that I would head. Then I went to Washington DC to see Jim Newkirk, who was my big r client in the Federal Railroad Administration. He said he was leaving the FRA to join Tom Dyer’s firm in Lexington MA in a marketing role. But, he said, maybe if I was part of the deal, Tom would finance a new company – Dyer, Newkirk and Stewart – DNS. I flew up to Boston and met Tom (who I knew from meetings). He agreed, and I resigned from D&Z and moved to Waltham – next to Lexington We started DNS Associates, Inc., with Jim as president, me as VP, and Tom as outside financer. I hired some folks from D&Z, and we hired Bengt Muten.

I first had an apartment in Waltham. During that year, a friend suggested that Mike Hollingsworth stay with me during the week – he was working in MA but living in DC. AFter a few months, he bought a house n Marblehead. I visited on Easter of 1980, and fell in love with Marblehead. When my lease ran out, I rented the back apartment in Mike’s house.

In 1982, Sharon finally agreed to move in with me, but I needed a bigger place. I rented the house at 15 Russell Street, and she moved up. The place was a wreck – it had been rented by a bunch of stewardesses and was sort of a party house, then a group of yong men occupied it. They started to paints it, but didn’t finish, and the hot water radiators in the living room froze and cracked and were in pieces. The kitchen was a mess, and the living room floor had a torn carpet. But we moved in.

A year later the owner put it up for sale, and I bought it for $105,000h. We lived like that for many years, then about when I retired in 2001 we poured about $25,000 iunto it, and made it into a nice place to live (after 18 years!).

I sold it in 2016 for about $500,000.
