The Salem Ota Club (now Salem Ota Cultural Exchange) was created because Salem and Ota u, a city in Tokyo Prefecture (state) are sister cities. The reason for that is interesting, but not told here.
At that time, every year Salem members of the Salem ota Club toured Japan as guests of the Ota Salem Club. Salem has only about 40,000 people, and all who wanted to go had gone at that time. So the docents at the Peabody Essex Museum were asked – and lots said YES, Sharon among them.. So we joined the club and went to Japan. A life changing event.
