One day – I don’t recall when, Sharon and I were listening to the Nutcracker Suite, and I began singing lyrics to the Balalaika or maybe it was the Waltz of the Flowers. Sharon said I was making it up, and did not believe me until she heard my sister sing along at some later time. There was no internet yet.
Growing up, we had a 45 rpm record with Fred Waring’s Nutcracker Suite being sung. The only such recording – some woman had written lyrics and Waring’s Pennsylvanians recorded it.
One day I was in Seattle on a bussness trip walking down the street when I saw a used record store. I asked about the record – they had one copy and mauled to me a tape copy.
Of course it is freely available on Youtube now.
